It all began today

Today was the start of a new life, a fresh beginning, a new outlook on things. It was the day i decided that i’m not going to become a true couch potato and end up dead in fifteen years due to bad health. I have put myself on a strict program including diet and exercise. In my effort to become a more fit human being. A more less noticeable blob amongst supermodels. Sort of anyway.
I have signed up for a bicycle race on the 26th of August and another one on the 2nd of September. The first one is a 43km race in Linkoping, Sweden and the second one is a 70km race in Norrkoping, Sweden. So i have roughly 22 days to prepare for the first race, including 2 rest days before the actual race.

I know it’s hard, but i’m not going to fail or abandon the races. Both races are open to anyone who wants to take part and their is no winner for the fastest time around the course. My aim is however to ride as fast i can, to set a benchmark for further racing during the 2008 season. The only one i can beat is myself, just the way i like it.

Some off my friends at work, think i’m loosing my mind and they are probably right, but it’s a challenge and i like it. I like it because i just love riding my bike and pushing the limits of my own endurance.

As this was the first day of training i went out for a 10km ride and really pushing the pace and i went round the course in 25,32 min, which is good, considering that i weigh 120kilo and run a modified mountain bike. But i think i can go much, much faster by the end of the month, when it’s time for the first race.

This weekend i will go for a 20km and a 30km bike ride at a moderate rate, just to improve strength and endurance. I might even put in a special mountain climb ride to improve even more, since both courses have smaller hills that i don’t want to suffer on.

I’ll be back later on this week with more of a progress report, off sorts…
